June 2, 1961 – April 18, 2022
John William Eastwood, age 61, of Wytheville, VA passed away suddenly Monday, April 18, 2022. He was born in Lorraine, OH in 1961. He moved to Wytheville when he was six years old and remained here. John became a volunteer for the Wytheville Fire Department in 1982. He then became an Engineer and Fire Marshal in 1995. He retired in 2018 from the Town of Wytheville, having served 32 years. After retirement, he became a Bus Driver for Wythe County Public Schools which he currently was a full time route driver. He also drove the bus for many football, basketball and spring sports games for George Wythe High School and Scott Memorial School. He also drove for many field trips for Spiller, Scott Memorial and George Wythe. He enjoyed seeing all the students every day.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Eastwood and mother-in-law, Ella Sue Hagy, both of Wytheville.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melissa Hagy Eastwood; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Jacob Nickles of Johnson City, TN; the pride and joy of "Poppy's" life: granddaughter, Bryanna Nickles and grandson, Jaxson Nickles. He is also survived by his father and step-mother, Don Eastwood and wife Carol of Wytheville; father-in-law, Dewey Hagy of Wytheville and friend, Gay Hawkins; brother Robert Eastwood and wife Cyndi of Draper, VA; sisters, Kim Gragg and husband Danny of Wytheville, Kendra Eastwood and wife Donna of Wytheville; sister-in-law, Kathy Scott and Lee of Wytheville. Nieces and nephews, Josh Scott, Chris Scott, Brittney Leonard and Raymond Clark Gragg; great niece and nephews, Hayden Scott, Eliza Scott and Carson Webber.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Barnett Funeral Home with Dr. Bruce Hagy officiating. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 th at the funeral home.
