John Grubb III (Johnboy), age 49, of Wytheville, Virginia departed his Earthly journey on August 3, 2023 at Wythe County Community Hospital. He was the son of the late John Grubb Jr. and the younger brother of his beloved late sister, Darlene Grubb. He graduated from George Wythe High School in 1994. He had a career in the restaurant industry and worked at Grayson Restaurant for seven years where he was treated more like family than an employee.

John is survived by his devoted mother, Mary Grubb, of Wytheville. He was a mama's boy until the very end; a sister that he cherished, Althea Grubb of Wytheville; four nieces that he picked on daily, Cherish Russell, Dominique Russell, Brea Lampkins and Lauryn Lampkins; five great-nieces who made him smile, Amara Barcliff, Maliyah Johnson, Mila Manns, Isabella Jordan and Eden Jordan; and one great-nephew, Jeremiah DeVaugn; close friends, Chris Russell, Nolan Taylor and Christian Crockett.

Johnboy was known for his contagious smile. Driving down Spring Street will never be the same. He will truly be missed. "To live in the hearts, we leave behind is not to die."

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at the Barnett Funeral Home with Bishop J.C. Hash officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday one hour before service time.
