John Wayne
Thompson
July 31, 1972 – January 19, 2018
John Wayne Thompson, age 45, of Wytheville, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2018. He is survived by his wife Beverly Patterson Thompson and their two children Emaleigh and Landon Thompson. Johnny is also survived by his mother Lucy Thompson, father Brady "Junior" Thompson of Ceres, and a sister Thelma Thompson Tickle of Bland. In addition, Johnny is survived by mother-in-law Patti Akers of Max Meadows, father-in-law Dickie Patterson of Austinville, sister-in-law Angela Eversole and her husband Jeff of Elkton, brother-in-law Greg Patterson of Salem, sister-in-law Krista Bradberry and her husband Kris of Wythevile, special cousins Kevin Hensley and Lisa Hensley Catron, and several other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Calvin "Morris" Holston and Virginia Holston of Wytheville.
Johnny had a special soft spot in his heart for his nieces and nephews Lincoln, Michael, Kaden, Masyn, and Rayna, each being so positively affected by their relationship with him. The impact he had on each of them will be ongoing. Kaden describes him as "the perfect man."
Johnny and his family are members of Pioneer Church. He worked at Coperion Corporation in Wytheville for fourteen years. His greatest passion was his family, and he was extremely proud of his children. He genuinely wanted to be there for others, and it brought him great joy to see those around him happy. Johnny was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing with his children. He would give the shirt off his back to a stranger, and he would do anything for his buddies. Johnny was good with his hands as was demonstrated by his unparalleled welding skills.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Gene Ball Memorial Youth Day in care of Hanna Collins. Please send donations to 4463 Peppers Ferry Road Wytheville, VA 24382.
