Joseph Walter Smith, age 58, of Wytheville, VA passed away Tuesday, Februay 21, 2017.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Olen "Chucky" Martin and is survived by his wife, Betty Lynn Smith and her children Louann Hampton and Tammy Bentley; his children and their spouses, Debra Hyler, Donna Powell and Mark, Diana Cressell and Ricky, Denise Crigger and Terry, Danny Hyler and Leanne, Darren Smith and Connie all of Rural Retreat, VA, Darlene Turpin and Jerry of Fort Chiswell, VA; his mother, Ann Kinder Correll; cousin, Jeff LaRoue both of Rural Retreat; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 P.M. Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel with Pastor Darren Smith and Rev. Roger Crigger officiating with a graveside committal service to follow 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. prior to the service.
