Josephine Ann Sawyers

Josephine Ann “JoAnn” Sawyers, 86, of Wytheville, VA died Thursday, August 20th, 2026 at Hillsville Health and Rehab Center. She was the daughter of the late Estel and Agnes Umberger, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. She was employed for many years by Food Lion in Wytheville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Sawyers, as well as her siblings, Rachel Courtney, Carolyn McGuire, Bob Umberger, Randolph Umberger and other beloved family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Pat Wolford of Max Meadows; one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Erin Sawyers of Piney Flats, TN; four grandchildren, Will Hudson and spouse Kelli, Nikki Wolford, Alissa Sawyers and Zach Sawyers, and one great-grandchild, Landry Hudson, plus several nieces and nephews.

A small graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 23rd at Mount Pleasant UMC Cemetery, 225 Tremough Drive, Wytheville, VA.
