Leonard Foster Heldreth, age 54, of Rural Retreat passed away July 13, 2026. He was born in Arkansas on January 1, 1972, to the late Douglas Wayne Heldreth and Eva Catron Heldreth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nephew Kevin Hagee.

Leonard was a man of immense talent, warmth, and creativity. He was a gifted artist and painter, and a truly extraordinary musician. Best known for his skill on the banjo, Leonard possessed the rare gift of being able to pick up and play virtually any instrument he set his mind to.

He was a true jack-of-all-trades who could do or fix anything, whether he was working under the hood of a car or tackling a project around the house. Above all, Leonard loved his family deeply, adored his loyal dog, and brought joy to those around him with his famously great laugh.

"Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day."

He is survived by two sisters Shirley Heldreth and Melissa Heldreth; step-daughter Jordin Stoll; nephew Josh Hagee; nieces Angel Smith and Krystal Hoover; several aunts and uncles; great nieces and great nephews; close friends, Suzie Stoll, Stephanie Counts, and Katie Perkins.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, VA is serving the Heldreth family. Online condolences may be sent to the family at: www.highlandfuneralservice .com
