Leonard Carter Thomas, a devoted farmer, cherished community member, and beloved brother, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, in Wytheville, Virginia. Born on January 21, 1951, in Virginia, Leonard dedicated his life to the land and the people around him, leaving behind a legacy marked by warmth, hard work, and heartfelt connections.

Known far and wide for his friendly nature, Leonard loved talking to people and was a familiar, welcoming face to many in his community. He found joy in simple pleasures—going to church, cooking, farming, and fishing were pursuits close to his heart that brought him peace and fulfillment throughout his years.

Leonard’s deep roots in Virginia shaped his life and values. His dedication to farming was not only a profession but a way of life that reflected his connection to the earth and to those who worked alongside him. His generosity of spirit and his willingness to lend an ear or offer advice made him a treasured companion and neighbor.

He was predeceased by his parents, Russell K. Thomas and Mary Jane Bentley Thomas; his brother Roger Lee Thomas; and sisters Kitty Reeves, Juanita Thomas, and Louise Thomas. Their memories remain a lasting part of Leonard’s story and the foundation of the family he so dearly loved.

Leonard is survived by his brother Raymond Thomas and wife Agnes of Dublin, Virginia; sisters Barbara Allen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Theresa Thomas and husband Johnny of Chilhowie, Virginia; and Burley Thomas of Wytheville, Virginia. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and great nephews who remembered him fondly and will carry his spirit forward.

Family and friends are invited to honor Leonard’s life at Barnett Funeral Service, located at 325 Church Street, Wytheville, VA 34382. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 7:00 PM with Pastor Todd Porter officiating. These gatherings will offer all who knew Leonard the opportunity to share memories, comfort one another, and celebrate a life well lived.

Leonard Carter Thomas’s life was a testament to the enduring values of kindness, dedication, and community. He will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
