Lewis M. Shelton Jr.

Lewis M. Shelton Jr. fondly known by family and friends as "Boo", age 94, of Wytheville, Va passed away Wednesday Sept. 23, 2026. He was born May 7, 1932 in Wythe County, the son of the late Lewis M. Shelton Sr. and Lettie Matney Shelton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Celia "Teal" Umberger Shelton, five sisters, Stella Bateman, Neta Kirby, Mabel Corvin, Nancy Gravley, and Eleanor Duncan; a brother Billy Shelton and two infant brothers; two infant granddaughters, Amanda Shelton and Lisa Shelton; and a great grandson, Justin Matthew Martin.

"Boo" was raised in a Christian home and gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 16. He has served Him faithfully ever since. There are so many that remember him as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Song Leader and he served as Pastor for several churches through a few years. He also worked at some area newspapers as a photographer and pressman. Later he worked at a couple of print shops, including one at Virginia Tech where he retired. After God and family, his true love was carpentry. As long as he had a hammer, nails and building supplies on hand, he was happy.

Survivors include four children and spouses, Wes and Bertha Shelton of Cripple Creek, Randy and Shelly Shelton of Wytheville, Kathy and Joe Wheatley of Grahams Forge and Ricky Shelton of Wytheville; five grandchildren, Bradley Martin (Tabitha), Angie Sharitz (Cory), Todd Martin, Philip Martin and Chance Shelton; several great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Garland and Arlene Shelton of Wytheville, and Early Shelton of Rural Retreat. Several nieces and nephews, and loving friends Amy and Mike Mustard.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 28, 2026 at the Restoration Church with Pastor Jeremy Farley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service time. Entombment will follow the service in West End Cemetery Mausoleum.
