Lonnie Eugene Kennedy, age 70, of Wytheville, VA passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026. He was born August 20, 1955 in Wytheville. Lonnie was a devoted and loving husband to his wife and found his greatest joy in spending time with family and enjoying a day of fishing. He never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. A good, simple man – easy-going and laid back, he was a loving husband, proud Pawpaw, devoted dad, cherished son and a true friend to all who knew him. He asked for so little, yet gave so much. A gentle soul with a helping hand, always ready. He was a pillar of strength for his family – tender, kind and full of quiet love. What a beautiful legacy he leaves behind. Now at peace, his love and memory will remain in our hearts forever and his legacy will live on in all of us.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his brother, Buster Kennedy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Norma "Jean" Kennedy; a son, Lonnie Kennedy II; daughter, Cindy (Daryl) Dalton; grandson, Tanner Dalton and wife Gracie; granddaughter, Layah; his parents, Walter and Rovie Kennedy; three brothers, Gerald and Karen Kennedy of Wytheville, Jerry and Anne Kennedy of NC, Michael Kennedy of Wytheville; and four sisters Linda Akers of Wytheville, Sylvia Walden of Wytheville, Francis Moore of NC, and Eleanor Abban of Wytheville. Also surviving are many extended family members, dear friends and his special pet, "Axel".

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the Barnett Funeral Home with Pastor Kent Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time.

Burial will follow in West End Cemetery.
