Obituary

Mary Lou Cook Workman, 85, of Sylvester, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her contagious smile and warmth, she brought joy to everyone around her.

Born on January 21, 1941, in Dorothy, WV, she was the cherished daughter of the late John and Leah Stover Cook.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. "Jimmy John" Workman; her father- and mother-in-law, Rev. James C. and Libby Workman; her four brothers, Johnny, Harold “Boo”, Charles, and Jimmy; her sisters, Freda White and Stella Thompson; brothers-in-law, Dennis and Teddy Workman; sisters-in-law, Sandra Derrick and Teresa Jones; and her precious granddaughter, Lainey Workman.

She is survived by her devoted children:
Liz (Paul) Fitzwater
James “Jim” (JoyBeth) Workman
Becky (Wes) Perdue
Nevie (Crystal) Workman
Leah (John) Brown

Her legacy continues through her adored grandchildren: Kati (Josh) Nelson, Josh (Emily) Perdue, Trey (Sabrina) Fitzwater, John Carper (Jordan), Austin (Kyla) Workman, Jacob Perdue, Zach Perdue, Dustin Workman, Brooklyn (Nathan) Gordon, Hailey Brown, and Stella Brown; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren: Libbie Kate Nelson, Wilder and Emmersyn Fitzwater, Paxton and Pendry Workman, Caroline and Ellie Perdue, and Kade Workman.

She also leaves behind her sisters, Thelma (Joe) Mancari and Sue Harris; sisters-in-law, Juanita Cook, Glenna Cook, Linda (Sid) Pettry, and Sheila Workman; brother-in-law, Jim Derrick; special niece, Kay (Dallas) Ferrell; special neighbors, Debbie and Danny Lewis; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

    Time: 12:00 PM – 1:45 PM 
    Date: August 4, 2026
    Funeral Service: A service in Thanksgiving of Life for Mary Lou Cook Workman will follow immediately at 2:00 PM. with Pastor Theodore King officiating.
    Interment: Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.
