Obituary

Muriel Elizabeth (Wingate) Halsey, 93, of Camp, Virginia, entered her heavenly home on February 18, 2024, after a long and hard-fought cancer battle.

Muriel was born in her home in Camp, Virginia, on July 21, 1930, to her mother, Luna Wingate. Muriel would go on to live in that same home all her life, only leaving periodically for the many vacations she loved to take with her husband Greene. After seeing 46 states (and bringing a souvenir collector plate back from each one), she always said that her favorite vacation spot was Myrtle Beach, where she loved to watch the sunrise over the ocean. Muriel was passionate about her faith and loved the Lord with all her heart. Her mother was one of the original members of Carmi Baptist Church in Camp, Virginia, and Muriel went on to be a member there all her life. The church members were her family and, aside from sickness and travel, she never missed a Sunday. Muriel was a loving mother to her only son Jerry, who devoted much of his time and energy to caring for her needs, especially in the last few months of her sickness. She was also a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Greene Halsey, and her mother, Luna Wingate. She is survived by her loving son Jerry Halsey (companion: Peggy Engle); her two granddaughters Melissa Edmondson (husband: Richard Edmondson) and Brandy "Alex" Halsey; her four great-grandchildren Jeffrey Halsey (companion: Hilda Hernandez), Kelly Halsey, Riley Edmondson and Lauren Edmondson; and her one great-great-granddaughter Evelyn Halsey. She is also survived by her church family, who were dear to heart.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Kenny Price officiating with visitation prior from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at Carmi Baptist Church in Camp, Virginia. Internment will immediately follow at Blue Springs Methodist Church Cemetery in Smyth County, Virginia.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to Carmi Baptist Church, C/O Doris Ann Ratlift, 1940 Camp Road, Sugar Grove, Va. 24375

Muriel has entered her heavenly home and would not want any of us to be sad about her joyous transition.
