Olen Bane Sexton, age 80 of Bland, VA was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, May 12, 2023. He was born in Crocket, VA, on February 11, 1943, to the late George Wythe and Ada Wright Sexton. Olen and his family moved to Bland in 1952, and he called Bland his home for the next 71 years.
Having served his country in the Vietnam War, Olen was a proud Veteran and continued his service to Bland County while holding various positions with Virginia Department of Transportation for 35+ years. He never met a stranger and always had time to talk with the farmers and neighbors. Olen was a jack of all trades and built the house he called home. He always found time to lend his skills to help anyone in need in the community. A strong water dowser, Olen helped many families locate water supplies and seldom missed the mark. A devote Christian, Olen was member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he served in various church leadership roles, aided in construction of the fellowship hall, and worshiped regularly. Olen loved farming and made sure that his livestock were well cared for; he loved his animals.
He was proceeded in death by his older brother, Wythe Sexton, and twin brother Curtis Sexton, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Sue Shewey Sexton; his son, Robert Sexton of Tokyo, Japan; his daughter and son-in -law, Dr Olena and Jody Lambert and granddaughters Jillian and Ada of Bland; special cousins Rachel and Roberta Sharitz of Crockett; step-sisters Sally Edwards and Ann Stiltner both of Bland; sister-in-law Jean Sexton of Wytheville; nephew Curtis Sexton, Jr of Fredericksburg along with many close family and friends.
The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Highland Bland Funeral Chapel with funeral services immediately following. Interment will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin where Military Rites will be conducted.
