Oscar Roscoe “Sonny” Ayers, age 91, of Draper, VA passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026. He was born March 4, 1935 in Wythe County, son of the late Robert Lee and Gethel Moles Ayers. Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Frazier Ayers. He was the former pastor at Jackson Chapel in Wytheville where he served for many years.

Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Ayers of Pulaski; his son, Reverend Barry and Pat Ayers of Wytheville; a sister, Glenna Mae Gravley; a brother, “Pete” Harold Ayers, both of Max Meadows; 5 grandchildren, Brandon (Amy) Ayers, Terry (Measie) Ryan, Jeremy (Sara) Ayers, Anthony (Mary) Ryan and Brian Ryan; 6 great-grandchildren, Abby (Tom) Beers, Korah Ryan, Xander Ryan, AJ Ryan, Jacob Ayers and Emily Ayers; 1 great-great-grandchild, Carmen Beers; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren, Julia Slagle, Carly Slagle and Ashton Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the Barnett Funeral Home with the Reverend Lonnie Frazier and Reverend Geary “Shug” Jonas officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. service time. Burial will follow in Bethany Community Church Cemetery.
