Otho Meek Cassell, 95, of Ceres VA, entered into his eternal home Friday October
13, 2023. Born August 1, 1928, in Ceres VA, he was the son of the late Bailey
Cassell and Annie Bogle Cassell.
Otho graduated from Ceres High School in 1946 and from Emory and Henry
College in 1951. He married Anne Tilson and they enjoyed a life of adventure
together. Otho was a proud veteran of the Navy. He and Anne enjoyed their time
stationed on Guam. He loved to share stories of their time spent there. Otho was
a teacher and a principal before becoming Chief Probation and Parole Officer.
Otho never met a stranger. He loved to help his neighbors and socialize at
community events. In recent years, Otho enjoyed being taken out on drives and
eating ice cream with his granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Anne Tilson
Cassell, brother Douglas Cassell, sisters Evelyn Groseclose and Jonan Repass,
infant twin brother Otis Cassell, and special nephew Joey Cassell.
Survivors include Jeffrey Cassell and wife Kathy Johnson of Waynesboro and
Saltville VA, Melanie Cassell of Ceres VA, one grandaughter Emily Cassell of
Christainsburg VA, devoted nephew Tommy Repass, and several nephews and
nieces.
Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Bland
Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Jon Smith officiating. Burial will follow on Monday
October 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Cemetery in Nebo VA.
Friends may call Sunday October 15, 2023 at Bland Funeral Chapel from 5:30 p.m.
to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emory and Henry College or the
Ceres Alumni Association.
