2023. Pearl Nuckols Arnold, age 94, of Rural Retreat, VA passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023. She was born December 1, 1928 in Wythe County, daughter of the late Claude and Hazel Arnold Nuckols. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cecil Arnold; son, Danny C. Arnold; son-in-law, John Schoolcraft; grandson, Daniel Craig Arnold; daughter-in-law, Sherry Jean P. Arnold and several brothers and sisters.

Mom loved to work and finally retired at the age of 79. She loved socializing with friends and family. One of her favorite things to do was cook a large meal and bring in all the family to eat. She loved taking care of her home and flower beds. Pearl never met a stranger.

Survivors include two sisters and brother-in-law, Frances Bruce of Richmond, VA, and Marie Showalter and Archie Hale of Riner, VA; two daughters-and son-in-law, Linda Schoolcraft of Wytheville, VA and Sherry and Nathan Harris of Critz, VA; daughter-in-law, JoAnn S. Arnold. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Barnett Funeral Home with the Reverend Kelly Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service time. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery.
