Peggy Burton James passed away on May 25, 2022, in Radford, VA. She was born September 2, 1931, in Radford, VA, but lived most of her life in Wytheville, VA. She was a graduate from Mary Washington College. She was preceded in death by her husband George "Jesse" James, her mother Stella Burton Hannemann and her fath er McKinley Augustus Burton. Peggy is survived by her children, Mary Snidow (David) Midlothian VA; Cindy Newman (Jared) Beaufort SC; George James (Stephanie) Wytheville VA and Betty James Irvin Durham NC. She has 13 cherished grandchildren: Mary Carter Snidow, Dustin Mitchell, Katie Hunley, Adam James, Charles James, Robert Barcliff, Jesse Irvin, Taylor James, Benjamin Irvin, Regan Newman, Taylor Newman, Sally James, and Will James. Also surviving are her 9 great grandchildren. Widowed at the young age of 60, Peggy spent the next 30 years enjoying time with her friends and family, volunteering in the community and caring for her devoted canine companion, Daisy. Some of her favorite things include red shoes, Duke basketball, Virginia Tech football, Alex Trebek and Haagen-Dazs ice cream. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 28, 2022, in Wesley Hall, St Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary with Pastor Lon Tobin officiating, the interment will follow in the West End Cemetery in Wytheville VA.
