Raymond Lee Short, Jr. age 78 of Rural Retreat, VA passed away Friday, August 22, 2025.  He was born in Welch, WV on December 26, 1946 the son of the late Raymond Lee Short, Sr. and Rowena Mae Hash Short.  Raymond was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army and was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Alice Short and a daughter, Lisa Short.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Reed and Joy Morgan; grandchildren, T.J. Short, Preston Short, Jamie Short, Kayla Ritchie, Brittany Blankenship (Trey), R.J. Morgan, Brandon Morgan, Amber Morgan, Tanner Akers; great-grandchildren, Tiona Short, Madison Short, Coal Short; and a brother, Robert Short.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tom Maurer officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery with Military rites being conducted by American Legion Post # 229 of Rural Retreat.  The family will receive friends one hour before service time.
