Richard McCoy Archer, 90, of Ft Chiswell VA, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Born April 14, 1933, in Wythe County VA, he was the son of the late Garland and Emma Reynolds Archer.

He was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord dearly. He never met a stranger. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Ft Chiswell Pioneers. He enjoyed following the Pioneers to games at home and all-over southwest Virginia. He was an avid walker. He was very proud of all his daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughter. He enjoyed eating home cooked meals. He loved music, playing golf and making others laugh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Garland Archer Jr. and Melvin Archer; sister, Virginia Mabe, and daughter, Patti Brown.

Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years Sylvia Archer of the home, daughter Veta Craig and husband James of Ft Chiswell, brother Elmo Archer and wife JoLynn of Ft Chiswell VA, grandchildren, Shana Copenhaver and husband Jacob, Lesley Catron and husband Scott of Hillsville VA, Karri Lawson and husband Will of Ft Chiswell VA, great granddaughter, Kayleigh Lovern, stepdaughter, Pamela Puckett and husband Dennis of Pulaski VA, step grandchildren, Neil, Amanda, Kelly, Kasey.

Celebration of life will be conducted on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Barnett Funeral Home with Pastors Billy Akers and Gary Cope officiating.

Friends may call Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Barnett Funeral Home.
