Richard Wayne Armstrong

Richard Wayne Armstrong, age 73, of Rural Retreat, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Born in Atkins, Virginia, on April 8, 1953, he was the son of the late Rufus Armstrong and Wilma Call Armstrong. One of ten children, Wayne was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Wayne was a faithful, longtime member of Rural Retreat Baptist Church. He possessed a mechanical mind and a craftsman’s heart, always loving to work with his hands and spend hours creating through woodworking. An avid outdoorsman, he found great peace while hunting and fishing in the mountains he called home. He also had a deep appreciation for bluegrass music and classic Westerns, but above all else, his greatest joy was his family, whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Ann Bebber, and four brothers, Bill Armstrong, Ron Armstrong, Denny Armstrong, and Earl Armstrong. 

Left to cherish his memory are his loving significant other, Patsy Armstrong; his sons, Tim Brown, Bobby Armstrong, Cody Armstrong and wife, Madison; his daughters Lydia Bowman, Nicole Ricketts, and Paulina Anderson; his brother, Pat Armstrong; his sisters, Polly Clark, Peggy Collins, and Judy Hall and her husband, Buddy; along with several beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends. 

Service Details

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home. 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Jacob Vanover. 
Interment will follow at the Kimberlin Cemetery in Rural Retreat.
