It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Albert Green IV, lovingly known as “Bobby.” Bobby passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the age of 70. He peacefully departed from this world at his home in Wytheville, VA.

Bobby was born on January 1, 1956, in Wytheville, VA. He was the beloved son of his deceased father, Robert Green III, and his deceased mother, Cora Green. For Elementary School, Bobby attended Scott Memorial School. After School System Integration, Bobby also attended Spiller Elementary School, Wytheville Intermediate School, and graduated from George Wythe High School in 1974. He graduated from Wytheville Community College in 1985 and earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science with a Major in Accounting. Bobby served in the Armed Forces for 20 years. For several years, Bobby worked as a Credit Manager and Store Manager for Heilig Meyers Furniture Store. After 20 years of service as a Truck Dispatcher, Bobby retired from ABF Freight. He spent his last years loving and caring for his wife, Abby, and loved spending quality time with his family. Bobby was also a pillar of the community. He was a strong, active member of the Wytheville Training School Cultural Center. Bobby was also an active member and Head of Security at Franklin Street UMC. He also made many powerful contributions to promote social justice and democracy for everyone. He will truly be missed.

Bobby placed a strong emphasis on family bonding, values, and history. He was a remarkable family man. Bobby met his wife, Abby Green, whom he adored, at George Wythe High School. They were married on April 17, 1976, and have been married for 50 years. Together, they had one daughter, Stacey Green Griffin. Abby and Stacey adored Bobby and will miss him dearly.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Abby Green; brothers James Green and wife, Tonjua Green, David Green, Allen Green and wife Rebecca Green; special sister, Patricia Austin; sister-in-law, Donna Brackens; daughter, Stacey Green Griffin; grandson, Amiri Jenkins; grandson Ajene Jenkins; granddaughter, Ayira Jenkins; special nephew, Avery Green; special great niece, Irus Green; and many close nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert Green III; mother, Cora Green; and brother, John Green.

To honor Bobby, we will have a Visitation Service at Barnett Funeral Home, 325 Church St, Wytheville, VA 24382, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026. The Funeral Service will be at Franklin Street UMC, 430 E. Franklin St, Wytheville, VA 24382, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. Following the Funeral Service, the Burial Service will be at Oakwood Memorial Garden Cemetery, 580 Peppers Ferry Road, Wytheville, VA 24382. Bobby’s family will be present to welcome loved ones at this challenging time. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wytheville Training School Cultural Center, 410 E Franklin St, Wytheville, VA 24382. In honor of Bobby’s life, the family also asks that you share a moment of kindness with someone in need.
