Robert Walter Burnett, age 90, of Galax, VA passed away Monday, July 21, 2025. He was born September 8, 1934 in the Walton Furnace community of Wythe County. He was the son of the late Pierce and Ruth Stoots Burnett; also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sue King Burnett; 2 sisters and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Robert was a retired Air Force veteran and served during the Vietnam war. He also served 17 years with the Wythe County Sheriff's Department and was Sergeant overseeing the jail. He was a past Master of Ivanhoe Lodge # 235 and past District Deputy of the 42nd Masonic District in Virginia. Robert was a member of the Ivanhoe Lodge # 173 IOOF.

Survivors include 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Sherrie and Marty Doss of Ivanhoe, Jennifer Burnett of Ivanhoe, Amber and Jonathan Semones of Austinville; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Bill Burnett of Ivanhoe, Anthony "Tony" and Amanda "Mandy" Burnett of Galax; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Several nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the Reese Funeral Home with Tony Edmonds officiating. Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge #235 will conduct Masonic Rites.

Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery with American Legion Post #9 conducting graveside military rites.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 service time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge # 235 in memory of Robert.
