Robert Michael Davis

Robert (Rob) Michael Davis, 70, of Max Meadows, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 3. He was born on March 22, 1956, in Wytheville and grew up in Williamsburg.

Rob was a beloved community member and always willing to lend a helping hand. His greatest professional passion was cutting meat. Rob worked in the grocery business for more than forty-five years, including twenty-three in southwestern Virginia. He co-owned and operated the former Pic Pac grocery store in Fort Chiswell, managed the Wade’s Supermarkets store in Radford, and helped open Food City locations in Wytheville, Radford, and Pulaski. Rob’s last role was as a part-time meat cutter at Food City in Wytheville.

Rob loved helping his community and was a proud member of Ruritan Club. He co-founded Pioneer Ruritan Club in Max Meadows, serving as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. He enjoyed watching and playing golf and spending time with his family. Rob served in U.S. Army for four years. He was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany, where he trained as a lance mission systems repairman and achieved the rank of Specialist 5.

Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Glenn and Lillian Rachel Davis, and his elder sister Susan (Suzi) Amstutz, all of Gunton Park. Rob is survived by his son, Craig Davis, of Richmond; his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Michael Shannon, of Tallahassee, Florida; two grandchildren, Cohen Davis and Madison Shannon; his sister and brother-in-law, Drema and Tommy Marsh of Newport News; his brother, George Sherman Davis, of Petersburg, Michigan; his sister Marcia Lambert of Gunton Park; his nephews and nieces Anne Bradford, Michelle Amstutz, Erik Amstutz, Amanda Moody, Katie Pearson, Skyler Lambert, Hope Simmons, Ame Rhodes, and Katie Wozniack; and several cousins and friends throughout the New River Valley and beyond.

Services are arranged by Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 11 at 1 p.m., followed by a service at 2 pm. officiated by Diane Stanley. Interment will be held at Jones Cemetery in Gunton Park.
