Robert Gayle Mitchell, Age 86, of Rural Retreat, VA., passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022. He was born December 5, 1935 in Troutdale, VA.

He grew up in Troutdale VA. He was a United States Army veteran and was stationed in the Republic of Korea. He was a 53-year member of the Rural Retreat American Legion Post 229 and a past Post Commander.  Loved the outdoors and served as a Game Warden for the Department of Deparment of Game and Inland Fisheries. for over forty years where he served as a Sergeant.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Winton and Ossie Belle Shumate Mitchell; brothers, William (Bill) Calvin, Louis Richard, Carl (Jack) Grayson, Cyrus Winton, Donald Franklin, Charles (Charlie) Bruce and twin Joe Dale Mitchell Sr.; sisters, Mary Evelyn Mitchell Lilly and Lavada June Mitchell Atwood Osborne and his wife, Rosalie Williams Mitchell, special friend, Brenda Baker.

Robert is survived by daughter Jennifer Burkett and husband Phillip, of Rural Retreat VA, Sons, Dennis Mitchell and Becky of Rural Retreat VA, Scott Mitchell and wife Lorrie of Wytheville VA, grandchildren Andrew Mitchell, John and Melissa Mitchell, Christopher Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Kelsey Mitchell, Ella Mitchell, great grandchildren, Alexander Schweighart, Caleb Mitchell, Brett Mitchell, two step- grandchildren, Logan Burkett and Hannah Brennan.

Memorial Services will be conducted Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 5:30 PM to 7 P.M.at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel in Rural Retreat.
