Ruby Louise Quesenberry Hughes, age 89, of Max Meadows, VA passed away Monday, December 23, 2024. She was born January 15, 1935 in Wythe County, daughter of the late Clyde and Nannie Windle Quesenberry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl Gene Hughes; brother, James (Jimmy) William Quesenberry; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Charlie Akers; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde (Buddy) and Patty Aker Quesenberry.

Ruby worked for Rexall Drug and Chemical Company, Baltimore, MD, Coleman Furniture Company, Pulaski, VA, and Dress Barn, Fort Chiswell, VA. She was an avid homemaker and housekeeper.  She was always known for her baking skills (red velvet, strawberry and other cakes) and her fine southern cooking.  She enjoyed family get togethers of which many she hosted.  Ruby loved to travel and shop (a very trendy dresser.)

Ruby was a member of Draper Valley Baptist Church.  She and Earl loved their church and were very active in the upkeep and making sure the grounds and  everything looked inviting.  They enjoyed participating in all church activities.

Ruby and Earl were truly soul mates.  They were always together – sharing 58 wonderful years. They loved raising a garden and canning their delicious vegetables and fruits.  It was always a pleasure to visit with them and sit on their back porch.  Many memories and good times were shared there. Ruby will be missed by all.

Survivors include her sisters, Juanita (Virgil) Hughes, Janet (James) Copenhaver, Teresa Gale Quesenberry and sister-in-law, Bonnie Quesenberry; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2024 at Barnett Funeral Home with the Reverend Danny Underwood officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time.

Burial will follow in West End Cemetery
