Ruth Roberts Palmer, 89, of Wytheville, died January 14, 2024. Born in Roberts Cove, Virginia, she wanted to be a surveyor but was prevented by the misogyny of the times and taught math instead, serving most of her career at Wytheville Community College. Widow of Dr. Walter W. Palmer, survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Michael Hadaway, brother and sister-in-law Scott and Cleta Roberts, sister-in-law Anna Ray Roberts, brother-in-law Richard Ballard, their families, and devoted friends including Terri and Tony Corvin. As she wished, an outdoor service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, at West End Cemetery in Wytheville, The Rev. Elizabeth Hadaway presiding. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is serving the Palmer family.
