Samuel “Sam” Elmer Carpenter, age 94, of Hiwassee, VA passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026. He was born June 12, 1931 in Wythe County, the son of the late Elmer and Okie Pickett Carpenter. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ollie Cormany; his brother, Russell “Russ” Carpenter; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Claire Bolt.

Survivors include his wife, Faye “Shug” Snow Carpenter, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel Douglas and Donna Carpenter, Walter Floyd “Mouse” and Debra Carpenter, Russell “Rusty” and Heather Carpenter, all of Barren Springs, VA; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; “Buster” his dog and best friend. Many extended family members and close friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Barren Springs Holiness Church with the Reverend Tony Hodge and Reverend Chuck Neal officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow in the Snow Family Cemetery.
