Obituary

Sharon Ann Pettyjohn (Storms) December 5, 1953-February 22, 2023

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Alvin Lee Pettyjohn and Elsie Jean Pennington and her brother Gary Lee Pettyjohn. Sharon was born in Cincinnati Ohio and attended CIncinnati Bible College receiving a degree in Christian Education. She worked at a daycare for over 10 years and was a pharmacy tech. She was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom to her three daughters for 20+ years while teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and drawing. She loved creating beauty as an amateur artist and singing to the Lord. Her greatest joy in life was to serve others. She loved children, both those who were hers biologically as well as the many she adopted who needed a good mother figure in their life no matter their age. She was dubbed by several close friends the "Queen of Hospitality" and never was there a better name for her, as hospitality means the love of strangers. Sharon loved strangers no matter who they were or what their background was. Everyone was welcome in her home where she would treat them to her excellent cooking as an expression of love. She was an excellent cook from an early age and received a girl scout badge for cooking. She always had a kind word and a hug for everyone. Whether it was a homeless man her husband brought home from the streets or a visitor to her church Sharon treated everyone the same, like royalty. Sharon never knew a stranger, and could make friends with anyone after only a few minutes of knowing them. Sharon was a beautiful example of someone who always thought of others first and was always looking for ways to help and uplift others. She found joy in her service to Christ and left an impact on everyone she met, no one ever had to doubt for a minute that she was a Christian and an example of what Christ calls us all to be. She is now safe in the arms of her Saviour and she will never hurt again. She is survived by her husband Phillip Storms, daughters Leah Storms, Sarah Storms (Castonguay, husband Ezekiel), and Hannah Storms (Huffman, husband Luke) as well as Gabe and Natalie Smith whom she counted as her children. She is also survived by her brother Dale and her nieces and nephews Isaiah, Valerie, Matthias, Nathaniel, Kayla, Emma, Rocklin, Charity, Mark, Noah, Abigail, Margaret, and Theodore, Jason, Gary, Betty, and Amy, as well as great nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service for Sharon at 2pm on Saturday March 4th at Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church in Draper Virginia. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is serving the family.
