Shirley Goodpasture Aker (88) of Speedwell, VA passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC. She was born in 1935 in Salem, VA to the late Milton W. Goodpasture and Augusta Crowe Goodpasture. Shirley lived in Marion, and Wytheville for the majority of her life, but particularly enjoyed her 30 years of peace and nature on her hill in Speedwell, while daydreaming about New Mexico and the Southwest.

She is survived by her son Kevin T. Aker and wife Tonya of Cary, NC, two grandchildren, Savannah M. Aker and Sierra R. Aker of Cary, NC, and brother Milton W. Goodpasture, Jr and wife Barbara of Randleman, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband George E. Aker, a brother Fred Goodpasture and wife Patricia and a sister Ina "Betty" Cullop and husband Maurice "Bub".

Per her wishes services will be private and minimal.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dewey and Lucy Fisher of Speedwell for their friendship and neighborly assistance over the years to both Shirley and the family.
