Sidney and Jim met when she worked at Tastee Freeze in Max Meadows in her early 20's. Jim said he stopped in for a cup of coffee one day and she caught his eye. They fell in love and were engaged just a few short months later. She was just 2 days shy of her 22nd birthday when they married on June 7, 1970 at the Wytheville Baptist Church. They enjoyed riding motorcycles in their younger years together. They then welcomed children Debbi and Allen and decided to put their favorite hobby on the back burner. They welcomed one more child, Crystal. They went on to welcome 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Sidney worked and retired from Alco Controls. She became certified as a CNA and began working at Edgemont. She retired from Edgemont as well. Sidney lived life to the fullest. After they both retired, Sidney and Jim picked back up their old hobby of riding motorcycles. It wasn't unusual to find them riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Back of the Dragon on any beautiful warm day. Sidney lived life to the fullest and didn't let anything slow her down. She passed doing what she loved, riding a motorcycle with her favorite driver.
Sidney loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would often surprise them with little gifts she had purchased for them. She would plan special meals and enjoyed having all her family together at once.
Sidney also extended her love to others. She had a lasting impression on many, from her Lowe's "extended children" she would bring goodies to, to her co-workers who called her "momma". She made an impression on everyone who met her.
It is with much love and gratitude that we say thank you to VSP Trooper W. E. Harrison, the Adwolfe Fire Department, Marion Fire- EMS Department, Chilhowie Fire Department, Wings Air Rescue, VSP MedFlight, Bristol Regional Medical Center and any others who might have been involved for doing everything in your power to try to save Sidney. Ultimately, the Lord had different plans for her that day. 2 Corinthians 5:8 (ASV)"...to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord."
