Stephen Delano "Legg" Aker, born March 28, 1938 to Roy and Cora Beatrice Aker, departed this life into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 after a short battle with lung cancer.  Stephen, better known as "Legg" to family and friends, served in the United States Navy and was a heavy equipment operator for the Operating Engineers Local Union 147, retiring after 60 years of service. He was a life-long dedicated member of Mt. Zion Community Church serving as a Choir member and Sunday School teacher.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Felts Aker; a sister, Jewel McVey and two brothers, Harry "Sonny" Aker and Roger "Jock" Aker.

Surviving are his daughters, Kimberly (Tony) Rorrer of Draper, VA and Lori Gwynn (Jimmy Baumgardner) of Afton, TN; grandson, Wyatt Rorrer of Draper and granddaughter, Alexis Hope Lewis of Dublin, VA; sisters, Brenda Byrd of Max Meadows, VA and Frances Charlene Atwell (Larry) of Fayetteville, NC. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024 at Mt. Zion Community Church with the Reverend Danny Shortridge officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 service time.
