Thomas Albert Spraker passed away on January 10, 2018, at age of 93 years in Greensboro, NC.
He was born May 29, 1924 in Red Hill, VA . He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Marco and Cynthia Cook Spraker; his wives, Murrell Tinnell Spraker and Flora Elizabeth Houck Spraker; two brothers, Harold Spraker and Charles Spraker, and his son, Steven Spraker. He was the oldest of three sons.
Thomas served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII in the 8th Air Force, 398th Bomb Group. He earned his wing qualifications, and served as a flight engineer aboard the B-17 Dorothy May. He attended Roanoke Business College after the war and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. Thomas moved to Greensboro, NC after college and worked as Building Manager for Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Company for 42 years. He was the president of the Southeast Regional Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) for 3 terms, worked for H & R Block in both NC and VA, was a fireman at Southeast Voluntary Fire Department and earned numerous certifications and credentials in Business, Insurance and Real Estate. After retirement, Thomas moved back to VA and the family farm.
Thomas loved all animals and children and took every opportunity to be with both. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, gardening and all outdoor activities; he lived an active life. Thomas was well known for his quick wit and great sense of humor.
Thomas is survived by two daughters, Sandra Woodard (Larry), Susan Spraker (David Fisher), four grandchildren, Jan Whetzel, Todd Spraker, Sean Fisher, and Nova Woodard, and three great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the many angels that work at Beacon Place in Greensboro for their tender care and support during Thomas last days.
A graveside military memorial service will be held at a later date at Zion Lutheran Church in Crockett, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund in c/o Debbie Cregger, 1659 Sharons Dr, Rural Retreat, VA 24368. Or donate to your local Hospice.
