Obituary

Verna Louise Sult Fisher, of Rural Retreat, Va., passed away on January 5, 2026 surrounded by her family.  She was born in Wythe County, Va on September 3, 1933 to the late L. Straley Sult and Hallie Miller Sult. She is preceded in death by her parents, former husband Dewey Bayne "Buddy" Fisher Sr. and brother Ellis Sult. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, family gatherings, gardening, and canning. She was a lifelong member of the Asbury Methodist Church. Verna worked in the shirt factory and at Edgemont Center as a cook.

Survived by her son Dewey Bayne Fisher Jr. and wife Lucy; grandson Jacob McKinley Fisher and wife Alyssa; great grandchildren Wesley and Raelynn Fisher; sisters-in-law Elaine Sult, Emily Fisher, Beverly Holbrook; brothers-in-law Russell Fisher and Susan, Stanley Fisher; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Staff at Francis Marion Manor for their special care in the eight years she was there.  She had a special roommate during her time there.

Funeral services will be held at Lindsey Funeral Home on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Noel and Mr. Tim Cregger officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury Cemetery.
