Virginia Crigger
Sult
August 7, 1925 – October 29, 2022
Virginia Margaret Crigger Sult has planted her last earthly garden and harvested her last tomatoes and bell peppers. She reached out to take her husband's hand and look into the eyes of Jesus on October 29, 2022.
Virginia was born August 7, 1925 in Elkhorn, West Virginia to George Washington and Stella Odema Davis Crigger. As a teenager during WWII, she graduated from Wytheville High School in 1944. Working as a telephone operator, Virginia soon met her soulmate, Vance William Sult. They were married April 16, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Crockett, VA. As a young couple, they lived in Rural Retreat until moving to the Huckleberry community in 1955. Thus began Virginia's many years of gardening, canning and preserving.
Virginia was a wife, mother of three, grandmother to six and proud great-grandmother to nine. She has joined her parents, husband and eldest son, William Allen Sult, Sr as well as her sisters and brothers; Louise Crigger Pickett, George W. Crigger, Jr., Arthur (Hoot) Gibson, Jr., Shelby Gibson West and Stuart (Mickey) Gibson.
Those blessed with being a part of her life are sons, Stephen (Janice) and Kenneth (Karen), and daughter-in-law, Mayme Jefferies Sult. Her grandchildren, Jennifer Kleinman (David), Mary Elizabeth Sult, William A. Sult, Jr. (Angie), Crystal Kuhn (Donnie), Rebecca Hambly (Wiley) and Landon James Sult. Virginia's legacy is her great-grandchildren; Jeffrey, Alex, Raegan, Lakelynn, James, Porter, Autumn, Olivia and Logan. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Also cherishing family memories is Virginia's best friend and sister, Dorothy Crigger Ayers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery C/O Lori Guynn P.O. Box 513 Rural Retreat, VA 24368. Memorial services will be announced and held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.highlandfuneralservice.com . Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA will be serving the family.
