Walter Edward Patton, Sr., age 84, of Rural Retreat, VA went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at his residence.  He was born in Cedar Bluff, VA on October 25, 1938 the son of the late Dillard Whitten Patton and Edna Mae Davis Patton.  Walter was a very faithful member of the Crockett Tabernacle Church. He was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin Silvester Patton, Johnny Lee Patton, Carl Roger "Buddy" Patton, Dillard Shawyer Patton; sisters, Sandra Lee McFarland and Maggie Mae Rose.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Ola Mae Candler Patton; his children, Walter E. Patton, Jr. (Sherry) of Dickson, TN, Robin Lynn Blevins (Keenen) of Shady Valley, TN, John Keith Patton (Amy) of Marion, VA, Mark David Sutphin (Debra) of Mechanicsville, VA, Kathy Lenore Neace (Bob) of Abingdon, VA; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Martha Remines of Rural Retreat, VA, Edith Kinder of Bluefield, VA; multiple nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Collins and Rev. Bob Neace officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. prior to the service.  The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Crockett Tabernacle Church or the Abingdon First Church of God.
