Wilma Thompson Howard Austin, age 89, of Max Meadows, Virginia passed away Friday, July 19, 2024. She was born June 5, 1935 in Smyth County, Virginia, daughter of the late Grover and Henda Patterson Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Melvin Austin; a son, Walker Leon Howard, Jr.; grandson, Terrence Allen Sayles; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Scottie, her very special caregiver, of the home and Pamela and John Gerlt of Max Meadows; a son, Charles Allen "Mingo" and Angel Howard of Wytheville; a sister, Nancy Louise Jordan of Tacoma Park, Maryland. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends also survive.

Abiding by Wilma's wishes, there will be no services. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is serving the Austin family.
