Wilma Ann Dunford Ward, age 85, of Max Meadows, VA passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017. She was born June 8, 1932 in Wythe County, daughter of the late George Guy Dunford and Myrtle Poole Dunford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. "Bob" Ward; daughter, Nancy Ward; three brothers, Guy Dunford, Paul Dunford and Harry Dunford. Wilma attended Wytheville Community College and New River Community College. She retired as a registered nurse with Mt. Rogers Mental Health. Wilma was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Richard "Dickie" and Georgia Ward of Max Meadows, VA; daughter, Kathy and John Mundy of Eagle Rock, VA; granddaughter, Christy L. Ward of Eden, NC; brother, Alan Dunford of Wytheville, VA;

special nieces, Janet D. Compton and Leissa D. Ratcliffe; caretakers, Kem Dean and Shirley Webb; special friends, Karen Hibbs, Cheryl Watson, Carrie Gallimore, Maggie McGee, Frank Johnson, Elizabeth Wright and Claudine Porter; special nurses, Nancy Huffman, J.J. Jennings and Sherry Taylor; special nephrologists, Dr. Feras Ghosheh and Dr. Allan Sklar.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Fort Chiswell United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kent Lewis and Reverend Ted Anders officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 to 12:00 noon at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wythe County Humane Society, 600 Atkins Mill Road, Wytheville, VA  24382 or The National Kidney Foundation, 1622 East Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23228.
